With this little writing activity, I learned a lot. As of sept. 21 2006 400,000 people have died. and millions hve fled there homes.it is a little country in sudan in Africa. and this has been going on for three years.and For the US they should stay out of there. Di you see russia come and help us with the katrina accident. no. so let them deal with it. and the US always spend the money on other countries instead of our selfs.

  2.   Ty Jackson Says:

What I learned about Darfur is that it is a very heinous place and there is a lot of people getting killed for no reason. Darfur is in Africa this started when a group of rebels said that the government was oppressing black Africans in favor of Arabs. What Darfur means it the land of the fur. September 21st, 2006 over 400,000 people have died due to Darfur. Also what I learned about Darfur is that it is going to be horrible place and if someone does not get over there it is going to be getting worst every minute if someone does not go over there and help the people in Darfur.

Alright, where to start? Well to start off, Darfur is in east Africa. This whole deal started off when a Rebel group began attacking government targets saying the region was being neglected by Khartoum. Darfur is known to be the land of fur and of high tensions of trade, land and grazing rights. At this point it is all a matter of power. So now we have a war between camel hearding Arabs and the land tilling tribes. At times we wounder what has happened to the peace treaty bush signed. Well as sad as it seems, the bush adminstration hasen’t really come threw on that. The peace deal with the SLA leader , Minni Minaw, signed the may peace deal and was given a large budget. The smaller SLA government did not sign it though and wars put to the side of things, rejected by a small rivial groups from SLA rebels. It seems so sad that friends from other school’s have not a clue as to what is even going on!! I didn’t even know about it before this project. Pretty sad, eh? The enemy in this war is the sudaneese , Janjaweed, and government. The Janjaweed are a largely composed fighters of the Arab nomadic background. They are accused for more than two million killings, rapes, slaves, ethnic cleansing, and furthermore distroying villages. you wounder where the UN forces are?? Well I can tell you that, Sudan’s forces will not allow them to enter the country fearing that they will take over their powers. I say, they don’t deserve any powers for this disgusting abhorent act. Most of these hopeless refugees fled from their homes and are placed into persons camp in Sudan or otherwise a basic refugee camp at no free will. So disgusting. As of July 30th, 2004, the UN security council adopterd resolution in 1556, demanding that the government of sudan disarm the Janjaweed. Well, I don’t really know what more to say, so …. I guess I will just leave it as that.

  4.   Sarah Schwab Says:

The conflict in Dargur started with a rebelion in the Darfur region. They felt they were being neglected by the Kharlloum capital of Sudan, where the government is. The rebels begin attacking the govenernment, so the government makes up a peace treatie. The rebels refuse to sign the peace treatie, so the peace deal was vanished and unvaluable. The government hired the Janjaweed to fight off the rebels and do whatever they can to stop them. The Janjaweed are a mitilia of Arabs who are accused and do attack, man-slauter, rape, and ethinic cleansing of the people of Darfur and all the rebels. They also burn down cities and destroy many lives. So far, about 400,000 people have died, and 2 million have lost their homes. There isn’t far enough medicine, food, and wter to go around, so they can’t live. Some women and children are going to camps were they can hope to be safe, yet that isnt a sucess most of the time. The hope of the people is failing.

Meanwhile, the USA is trying our best to give donations and support by the Red Cross. We too need to stay hidden from the Janjaweed, becuase it is possible that they might see us and do all of those things ot us. It would be too much to ask for the US Army to go over and help Darfur, becuase we are trying to clean up things in Iraq.

    Think of Darfur. Thank You.

  5.   Ariel Langer Says:

Darfur is a really big problem that people dont seem to care about. How can some one not care that 400,000 people have died out of cold blood murder basiclly. And millions of people had fled from their homes out of fear of dieing. These people are being killed and raped for there religion. The janjaweed (which means devils on horseback)are some of the ones doing the killins, rapes, and slavery. If no one stops this soon more than 400.000 people will be dead with in the next year. I dont see how we can just sit back while this heinous crime is going on. We need to take our troops out of iraq were they don’t even want us and go help the people in Darfur they need it more.

  6.   Amanda Roy Says:

The people in Darfur are cruel and callous they have no emotiom for the people they’re hurting.there has been over 2 million people in the darfur conflict camps where they are worked and beaten women are held as sex slaves for the men. People are fleaing there villages and some go to chad they are safe there, many are vonrable to attacks of sudan. no fewer than 200, 000 people have been killed. The conflict started in 2003 because of the rebels were feeling that the government was favoring Arabs over them. And the US has done nothing to help.

  7.   Tristan Peterson Says:

in this project i learned a lot about Darfur.
At first when Mr. Loosveldt said we were going to be doing some research about Darfur, I had no clue what he was talking about. I thought Darfur was a person.
But after I did some research i found out that Darfur is a Region called Sudan in Africa
Over 200,000 people have been to Darfur and tryed to survive the horrible things the Janjaweed were doing to them.
Darfur has been embroiled in a deadly conflict for over three years.
Over 400,000 people have been killed. Darfur stands for ” land of the fur”.
the conflict begain to impovised in early 2003. There is not eanough food, or water in Darfur.
I can’t belive that the United Startes are not even helping out the Darfur.
I can’t belive how much interesting things i leared about the Darfur.

  8.   Paola Says:

I’ve been studying about the Holocaust sinceI was in the 6th grade. when everyone reads the stories about it, and how much people suffered, they ask themselves why no one did anything to help, and how so many people were killed without anyone knowing.
we’ve been studying about darfur for 2 to 3 weeks now. why don’t people ask themselves those questions anymore? because they’re afraid. they’re ashamed because the know the answers. no one helps because people are stingy and no one cares for anyone but themselves. they’re scared to realize how stupid we are for not giving a hand to those suffering in Darfur.
I know we can’t count on out President to do anything because he denies that anything out of the usual is happening in Darfur.
Just about 4 houndred thousand people have been killed coldblooded. Thousands leave their homes marooned in the lands of the fur because they are scared for their lifes and families. The Janjaweed are a gang or group who are responsible for the deaths of the African Americans. The reasons why the conflict began was because of religion. Something the USA doesn’t have to worry about because it’s in the First Amendment.
But anyway, the millions of people who have fled from their homes stay in camps where they hope to be safe. The only problem is that there are a plethora of people in the capms and they negin to cramp. Also there isn’t sufficient food, medicine, or water for all the victims in Darfur and thousands will probably die from lack of shelter and care.
I guess the only way of helping people in Darfur without any government help is by making donations. This catastrophe should stop and we need to colaborate to make it be annihalated.

  9.   Brit Nowlin Says:

Well to start off with this Darfur tragady, I find it absolutely absurd that the Sudanese government and the president are denying these happenings and saying they are “over-exaggerated”. there is proof that since the starting point on February 26, 2003, at least 400,000 people have been killed, and more than 2 million natives have been forced from their homes and to live in neighboring displaced-person camps. the rebels are said to have started this by attacking government buildings and outposts, claiming they were neglected by the capital.

The government then tries a peace treaty, which the rebels refuse to sign. So the government hires the Janjaweed to fight them off. By doing so the Janjaweed rape, murder, and kidnap the rebels and locals. Now i do want our country to do something, but i don’t want an Iraq part II.

And to Fudges comment about it, OVER 400,000 people have been killed along with 2 million losing homes, we can’t ignore something like this.

  10.   Mirian Chavez Says:

Dear, Mr. Loosveldt I learned that what is going on Darfur is a heinous catastrophe. I mean more than 2 million people are living in camps after fleeing for almost four years of fighting in the region. Darfur does not have enough food, water, or medicine. The men are killed and the women are raped if they venture too far in search of firewood or water. Many aid agencies are working in Darfur but they are unable to get access to vast areas because of the fighting.

I think that the people in Darfur are similar to the holocaust in Germany because they were going through the same situation as the Jews were. The President here denies everything that’s going on in Darfur I really think that he’s being a complete jack donkey because he’s just asking stupid. The Germans relate back to this because they were killing the Jews and acted like if it wasn’t a big deal they put them in concentration camps and let them die and Hitler did not care and he was acting as stupid as the president is now.

I know for a fact that we should be doing something about the heinous crime in Darfur. The same way we’re doing something about the war in Iraq. We should send some of our troops to Darfur and help them out the right way. It might be hard but I believe in our troops and I know that we can do it

  11.   Monkey Says:

I learned that janjaweed means devils on horseback and that they are the ones killing or raping the people in Darfur. Over 400,000 people have been killed in darfur and nobody is doing anything about it. I think that we should send our people to Darfur and help them instead of sending them to Iraq because the people in Darfur need them more then the people in iraq.

  12.   Susan Miller Says:

I think that the USA should help the people out instead of sitting around on there butts doing nothin. The janjaweed are out there killing innocent people and nobody is helping them. The mothers who are watching there childs be killed are probably going threw a lot and the USA isn’t doing anything about it. Janjaweed means devils on horseback and they are devils since they are killing all these people.

  13.   Will Says:

In this reading activity, I learned a lot about what is happening on the other side of the pond, in Africa. I learned that the Goverment is lying about not knowing about what is happening, in fact they are helping the Janjaweed (Devils on Horseback) abolish everybody that lives in the Dafur region (land of the fur). There were people deployed to take care of this mayhem; however the numbers that were deployed were little.
This catastrophe has been happening for almost 3 years. The death casualties are almost impossible to predict, since so many people have died. There was supposed to be a peace treaty, but one of the organizations that was supposed to sign failed to do so, thus making it even harder for legal action to be taken.
